Coconut water

Bael fruit

Siri phal or Bael fruit is valued in India for its laxative property. You can take around 50 gm of its pulp on a regular basis to fight constipation. It helps clean up the intestines and improves bowel movement.

Dates

This Middle East delight is potent in treating constipation. Soak 4-5 dates in water at night, mash it next morning in to fine syrup and drink it slowly for its laxative effect. It stimulates peristalsis and is very energising too.

Figs

You can consume them dried or fresh, whichever way you like, for their laxative effect. 4-5 figs a day help provide the required bulk to the stools and stimulate peristalsis.

Papaya

Here’s a fruit that improves digestion and corrects constipation. It contains papain, the protein-digesting enzyme. Papaya is known to correct most digestive problems such as dyspepsia, indigestion, acidity, and constipation.

Exercise

Last but not the least, regular exercise is a must. It is a habit that can help fight constipation. Walk 30 minutes daily for 6 days a week. It will go a long way in regularising your bowel movement. Among other things, reserve enough time to have a bowel movement. Try and visit the loo at approximately the same time every day. Further, the urge to have a bowel movement should not be ignored. Holding on to your stools makes them hard to pass later on. With a few dietary and lifestyle improvements, there should be no reason why nature’s call shouldn’t come easy to you.
