Type II diabetes is an affluent disease, which precipitates due to an urban lifestyle, little or no exercise, eating refined foods, poor stress management, excessive drinking, etc.
Eating lots of desserts, white bread sandwiches, pastas, white rice, maida biscuits, pizzas, burgers, pastries, naans, rumali rotis, noodles and other highly processed starches and restaurant foods 3-4 times a week, hampers your insulin utilising capacity making you pre-diabetic. At this juncture one can develop high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, obesity, high cholesterol, high triglyceride and type II diabetes. A high triglyceride reading coupled with a low HDL reading implies pre-diabetic conditions known as insulin resistance. This condition leads to premature and unnecessary aging. It affects your heart, arteries, liver, eyes and extremities, appearance, moods, emotional states and almost everything. And just like a rise in blood sugar level is unwelcome, so is a fall in blood sugar level.
