Phobias


This is a type of anxiety disorder that causes a person to fear about a situation, animal, place or object.  Most people have phobia since early childhood, or teenage years, or early adulthood. Despite individuals knowing about their phobia, they can’t do much to control their reaction. One can overcome his/her phobia by avoiding the cause of the fear.

Causes:

  • Stressful events
  • Environmental factors
  • Exposure to heights
  • Animals or insect bites
  • Ongoing medical conditions
  • Substance abuse
  • Depression

Symptoms:

  • Dry mouth
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea
  • Upset stomach
  • Profuse sweating
  • Dizziness
  • Hot flushes
  • Chills
  • Chest pain
  • Scared of pins and needles
