Corns and calluses are thick, hardened layers of skin located on top of a toe or outside the little toe. They mostly form on the feet and can making walking quite painful. However, they are usually self-treatable by wearing proper fitting shoes and protective pads. Avoid high-heel shoes.

Causes:

  • Body weight
  • Constant friction and pressure
  • Wearing ill-fitting shoes or wearing sandals or shoes without socks

Symptoms:

  • A thick, hard patch of skin
  • Bump on the skin
  • Pain or tenderness of the affected area
